The impressions are created using a hammer to strike the jewelry with a metal stamp against a steel block. Each character is done one at a time, set by the artist’s eye prior to striking. So “hand stamped” is just as it implies and every piece will have variations in spacing, alignment and letter depth. There will also be impressions on the back of the piece from being hammered on the steel block and why we can only stamp on one side.
All of this adds to the character and charm of hand stamped jewelry creating a true one of a kind art. Machine engraved may appear perfect, but hand stamped is perfectly unique.
